What are
the basic comparisons between the Miami Classic / SSII / Jackass shoulder
rigs?
The Miami Classic and SSII shoulder
systems have the same holster component and double ammo carrier; the difference
is in the harness only. The Miami Classic harness is made with all four
straps being of equal width, where the SSII harness becomes wider over
the shoulder area. The Miami Classic is the most popular and some feel
it is easier to conceal, as well as cooler with the narrow straps. Others
may tell you that the SSII wider harness is more comfortable, as it spreads
the weight over a wider area. Small framed people, or those with larger
builds, tend to do better with the Miami Classic.
The Jackass rig is less expensive due to the harness being suede instead
of a smooth surface top grain leather like in the Miami Classic harness
(MCH) and SSII system harness (SSH). In addition, the construction method
for both the holster and ammo carrier is riveting not stitching like the
Miami Classic and the SSII.
Another difference is that the Jackass holster component is designed for
diagonal carry, with the muzzle tilted slightly up, due to the patented
swivel keeper being placed under the muzzle rather than above the muzzle
as in the pattern used on the holster component for the MC and the SSII
systems.
The optional tie downs for each rig are made from the same hides used
for that particular rigs’ harness. STD = ammo side tie down for MC or
SSII systems. JTD = ammo side tie down for the Jackass Rig. STDH = holster
side for the MC or SSII systems; and the JTDH = holster side tie down
for the Jackass rig.
Our Miami Classic is quite possibly the most imitated shoulder holster system in the world. A direct descendant of the original shoulder system first introduced by Galco in 1970 (then the Famous Jackass Leather Company), the Miami Classic has since become the favorite of professionals worldwide.
A key component of this patented shoulder system is its spider harness. All four points of the spider harness pivot independently and are connected by our unique clover shaped Flexalon™ swivel back plate, which is a Galco trademark. This results in a perfect fit and lasting comfort for all sizes and shapes.
This system is constructed of premium saddle leather and includes holster, harness, ammo carrier and a set of system screws. The Miami Classic is fully modular. Optional accessories and components may be purchased separately.

After a number of helicopter pilots in LE Air units briefed us on their special needs, we turned our attention early in '04 to designing a new Vertical Shoulder Holster System. We combined features from our Miami Classic Holster with a traditional vertical shoulder holster into a system that s perfect for 21st century in-flight LE and Emergency Personnel. It allows comfortable carry, and can be worn exposed over a flight suit in emergency room settings without alarming civilians with an exposed horizontal muzzle.
The VHS has been field tested over military BDU s and general hunting clothing as well, with great success.
And although we did not set out to create another concealment rig, we discovered that we did!--it s hard to break away from one's roots. The new VHS provides the long-awaited alternative for those who want the concealment of our Miami Classic but, for what ever reason, prefer the classic vertical carry style.

The Vertical Shoulder Holster System is ambidextrous, in tan or black finish.
For Galco's 30th Anniversary we are reintroducing the concept of "The Original Jackass Rig". Galco's predecessor, "The Famous Jackass Leather Company", first introduced this shoulder system in 1969. The name Jackass derived from the horsehide we used to make most of our holsters, and from the fact that we were stubborn for quality. With these first custom made Jackass Rigs, we began to service the officers of the Chicago Police Department. It was Jackass Leather that popularized the Holster
horizontal/diagonal carry and originated the silhouetted, cut off end of the shoulder holster, so it would not print under clothing. In 1980 Richard Gallagher, who started Jackass Leather, changed the name to Galco International, to facilitate expansion in the international market. The modernized version of the original rig features a horizontal holster with Galco's patented swivel connectors, which can be adjusted to a more diagonal carry position, an ammo carrier that has a streamlined design and a genuine suede leather harness, giving unparalleled concealment opportunities. The suede harness has our trademarked clover shaped flexalon back plate that allows all four points of the harness to swivel independently for greater adjustment and comfort. The Executive Shoulder Holster is Suitable for wear under everything from formal evening clothes to casual attire, the Executive™ carries a compact handgun in a horizontal position, ready for instant action.
The ultimate in dress design, the classic Executive is a fully lined, hand-molded, open front holster. The extremely comfortable fully lined Italian calf harness includes a 1" wide elastic support strap with a tri-slide and adjustable suspender clip that fastens to the belt line of the trousers. The suspender clip is made of solid brass in Galco’s in-house foundry. The Executive holster includes a tension screw adjustment to enhance security, and combat grip accessibility to ensure a smooth draw.

This Galco horizontal holster, for pistols only, features Galco,s patented swivel connectors, which can be adjusted to a more diagonal carry position than the Miami Classic or SSII. It can be used with any of Galco,s harnesses. It is available in Havana color right hand draw.
The modular interchangeable component shoulder systems (originally known as the "Jackass Rig™") were invented by Galco International in 1970. Today, Galco continues to offer quality and versatility by developing products that enable you to design the perfect system to suit your needs. For example, a half harness system, or add tie downs and cuff case to an existing system.
The S3H holster component is made for pistols, and
will work with our Galco Miami Classic, SSII, and our half harness
systems. It features a tension screw adjustment, thumb break
and will accept a tie down. The S3H holster component is
constructed of premium saddle leather and is available in
tan or black finish for right- or left-handed shooters.
The S1H holster component is made for revolvers, and will work with our galco Miami Classic, SSII, and the half harness systems. It features a thumb break and will accept a tie down. The S1H holster component is constructed of premium saddle leather and is available in tan or black finish for right or left handed shooters.
Draw-EZ™ is applied to the inside of your leather holster to shorten the break-in period and to provide a slicker draw. When applied sparingly to the interior surface of the leather pocket Draw-EZ will not be absorbed by the leather, alter the fit of the holster, or harm the finish on either the firearm or the holster.
Galco's Leather Lotion and Conditioner is specially formulated to gently clean, condition and preserve finished naked and exotic leathers. The special wax free formula removes surface dirt and provides water resistance.
