This lightweight lamp features a specular aluminum reflector which maximizes UV irradiance for even brighter fluorescent response. While this unit can be used with A/C with the adapter, it also can operate for as long as seven hours on fresh batteries. This lamp has a built-in metal carrying handle and features a transparent plastic tube guard to insure against accidental breakage. Although the unit is lightweight, it is built with a heavy-gauge, anodized-aluminum housing.

The Forensic PAL (Personal Alternate Light) is a state-of-the-art portable light. Four, super-bright, blue-light-emitting diodes (LEDs) use three AA batteries and are housed in a rugged flashlight-style case. This light is powerful, yet small enough to fit into a shirt pocket. Solid-state and shockproof, the Forensic PAL has a unique design for an almost unbelievable battery life, lasting up to 300 hours without a significant decrease in power output.
Like other blue-light-emitting light sources used to visualize latent prints and other physical evidence, it is necessary for the examiner to wear orange goggles which are included in the kit. Darken the room or area, shine the light at various surfaces where physical evidence might be found. Photograph and collect the evidence. Use the PAL to see latent prints developed with fluorescent powders and dyes. Photograph them with an orange filter on the camera lens.
The estimated life of the batteries is 300 hours without a significant decrease in power output. The estimated lifetime of the LEDs is about 11 years. The Forensic PAL is waterproof to two feet and has been
shock tested with a drop test of ten feet. There is a three year warranty on the unit, excluding the batteries. The unit comes in a
hard side case and includes two pairs of orange goggles. The Forensic PAL is 7"" long, 1"" in diameter and weighs only 5 ounces.
Viewing goggles are necessary for eye protection and for seeing the latent prints or other evidence fluorescing. Three standard colors of goggles are available. The wraparound goggles fit over prescription glasses. The actual operator of the forensic light source should always wear wraparound goggles to provide personal protection and to allow both hands free for chemical processing, dusting with fluorescent powders or photographing latent prints.
